In today’s food packaging industry, one question keeps you awake at night: “How can I be absolutely certain that my packaging won’t compromise my product’s safety or quality?” This concern isn’t just about regulatory compliance — it’s about protecting your brand, your customers, and your business from potentially devastating consequences.

Why SQF Certification Is Critical

Every day, you face mounting pressure from regulators, consumers, and retailers who demand transparency and accountability in your supply chains. A single packaging failure can result in product recalls, contaminated products reaching consumers, damaged brand reputation, and significant financial losses. The stakes have never been higher for your business.

You need a partner who understands that your packaging is the final barrier between your product and potential contamination. This is where Safe Quality Food (SQF) certification becomes essential — and why Inline Plastics has made it a cornerstone of our operations to support your success.

How SQF Certification Protects Your Business

SQF certification represents the gold standard in food safety management systems. Developed by the Food Marketing Institute and recognized globally through the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), it provides a comprehensive framework that ensures every aspect of food packaging meets the highest safety standards your business requires.

At Inline Plastics, we maintain SQF certification because we understand that your success depends on rigorous standards. This globally recognized certification ensures that food products are produced, processed, and handled according to the highest possible standards throughout your supply chain, giving you confidence in one of the most trusted certifications in the food industry.

How Inline Plastics Maintains the Standards Your Business Requires

At Inline Plastics, the SQF certification process follows five key phases to ensure food safety and quality practices are fully embedded into our day-to-day operations.

First, we begin with preparation by conducting a thorough gap analysis to compare our current practices with SQF requirements for food packaging. As part of this phase, we assign both an SQF Practitioner and a certified back-up for every manufacturing site — trained individuals responsible for implementing and maintaining the system that protects your products.

We also ensure that all employees are trained on SQF requirements and food safety practices. As a core part of this phase, we implement a Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP)-based food safety plan to proactively manage risk across our operations.

Third, we conduct pre-assessment and randomized internal audits. These audits allow us to identify and address areas for improvement before the official audit, helping to maintain the reliability and consistency you expect from us.

Fourth, a third-party auditor — such as NSF, a globally recognized independent certifier — conducts an on-site certification audit. This audit includes document reviews, facility inspections, and staff interviews to verify our compliance with SQF standards.

Finally, if the audit is successful, we receive SQF certification. Certification is valid for one year and requires an annual audit to maintain, reinforcing our ongoing commitment to the food safety and quality standards you rely on.

What Rigorous Auditing Means for Your Peace of Mind

The audit process reveals the comprehensive nature of our SQF certification. Auditors conduct a systematic evaluation examining our documentation, inspecting our facilities, and interviewing our staff to verify that procedures are actively followed.

At Inline Plastics, unannounced audits every three years test whether we maintain standards when we’re not expecting scrutiny. Each facility undergoes separate audits on different schedules, ensuring consistent standards across all locations that serve your business.

Minor non-conformities require correction, major issues must be addressed before certification, and critical non-conformities result in audit failure. Any issues require us to submit corrective action plans, demonstrating our commitment to continuous improvement and protecting your business.

An example of a certification is the SQF (Safe Quality Food) rating. An SQF score of 96 or above shows excellent compliance with food safety standards.  Other certifications include BRCGSFSSC 22000IFS, and Global G.A.P. A passing score is 85, but we are consistently in the 98-100 range.

How Inline Plastics Exceeds Your Expectations

While SQF certification has become table stakes, Inline Plastics goes beyond basic requirements to provide additional value that protects your business. We require our corrugate suppliers to carry Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) certification, supporting your sustainability goals. Maintaining Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards as part of our comprehensive SQF system is essential to our operations.

We work with PCA as our sole-sourced corrugate supplier, who maintains a robust sustainability program. This supports your corporate sustainability goals while maintaining the highest safety standards. Our practices include using recyclable materials, carbon footprint reduction initiatives, and zero-waste manufacturing.

At Inline Plastics, we’ve developed innovative smart packaging technologies that solve your real-world challenges. Our heat-sensitive labels visually indicate if cartons have been subjected to abnormal heat, giving you immediate visibility into potential quality issues. When customer concerns arise, we ask for a picture of the label — if it’s grayed out, we know that case sat next to a heat source or on a truck too long. If you receive a shipment and this label is grayed out, contact us immediately and we will work together to provide a solution. This innovation helps you identify potential issues before they become costly problems.

How Inline Plastics Stays Ahead of Changes

Although we’re currently audited under Version 9 of the SQF Standard, the latest release — Version 10 — is already out. While certification bodies haven’t started auditing to Version 10 yet, we’ve proactively begun implementing its new requirements. This forward-thinking approach ensures we’re not only prepared for the transition but that your business stays ahead of upcoming regulatory changes.

We provide dedicated account managers, 24/7 support, real-time dashboards for compliance tracking, and performance KPIs. This service keeps your business running smoothly while maintaining the highest safety standards.

The Business Advantages of Partnering with Inline Plastics

Our SQF certification provides a recognized framework that regulatory agencies understand, streamlining your interactions with inspectors and reducing regulatory risk. Retailers and food service companies expect packaging manufacturers to be SQF certified. Our comprehensive systematic approach provides multiple layers of protection, ensuring business continuity and helping you sleep better knowing your packaging partner has your back.
